Bryan Pilkington, PhD, is (Full) Professor of Bioethics in the Department of Medical Sciences, at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine.
He is author of over 40 peer-reviewed publications and a member of the editorial boards of leading journals in the field of bioethics, including HealthCare Ethics Committee Forum, Christian bioethics, and the Journal of Medicine and Philosophy. He is also Editor-in-Chief of Professional Formation Update.
Prof. Pilkington’s research focuses on questions in bioethics, where he is especially interested in questions of conscience, moral responsibility, and the practices of the health professions, and in moral and political philosophy, where he is especially interested in the concept of dignity and in moral disagreement. He lectures on practical ethical challenges in healthcare and teaches courses in normative and applied ethics.
He has held numerous fellowships, including the Leadership Excellence in Educating For Professionalism Fellowship, and received multiple teaching and research awards, including the Outstanding Teacher Award (Aquinas College) and the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award (University of Notre Dame), and the Prestigious Oral Presentation Award, from the Association for the Study of Medical Education.
