This presentation advances an original theory of health to resolve a longstanding tension in how we conceive of (i) therapeutic healthcare, (ii) obstetric/fertility treatment, and (iii) contraceptive treatment/terminations of pregnancies.

Learning Objectives:

After participating in this conference, attendees should be able to:

Identify and describe tensions in our conceptions of (1) enabling pregnancy, (2) disabling pregnancy, and (3) promoting patient health.
Connect issues in reproductive ethics to debates in philosophy of medicine and to a new view of health as the functional underpinnings of agency.
